“Behaviour: The way in which an animal or person responds to a situation or stimulus.”
Have you ever felt at the mercy of a challenging situation and thought “I can’t do anything about it that’s just how it is, these things always annoy me!”
When a colleague complains about the same thing every day and it drags your mood down.
When you have a challenging situation at work with difficult characters, and feel at a loss as to what to do about it.
When you see someone doing something you have always wanted to do and think “It’s alright for some!” and wish you could do the same, somehow…
The ability to develop an awareness of your behaviour and that of others can be cultivated over time. This awareness will empower you to spot potentially challenging situations earlier, and either avoid them or manage others and yourself better.
This will result in more positive outcomes, and a much calmer and happier you. Giving you time to think about what you really want to do and the situations you really want to create for yourself. Thus creating and sustaining more positive behaviour on a daily basis.
One of the Emotional Intelligence matrices reviews your balance between self-management and relationship management, which is an indicator of how personally effective you are. This could be relative to any situation at home or at work.
There are 4 behaviour scales in Emotional Intelligence Profiling
Effective
If you rank high on relationship management and self-management behaviours you are deemed as of higher emotional intelligence and are “effective”. This indicates you are likely to be self-motivated, regularly achieving your goals, inspiring others to achieve theirs as well as managing balanced relationships.
Facilitative
You love to help others, and will often put their needs first at the expense of your own. You spend more time helping others achieve their goals than working on your own or find yourself often prioritising team or family consensus Vs making sure your own needs are met you are likely to come out as facilitative.
Self Driven
You are a perfectionist and are often most effective when you are working on your own. You find it hard to wrangle other people to get them on board with your way of doing things. Relationship management and working on bringing them along for the ride is at the bottom of your to-do list.
Self Limiting
You have good ideas and may even know the areas you need to work on to live or achieve them but struggle to activate them in everyday life. You often feel helpless as to how you are going to achieve your goals, and sometimes find yourself blaming others for your own circumstances.
Be honest! Where do you think you would come out today?
